Lithobit is an interactive educational game based on the idea of actively involving the public of the Friulian Museum of Natural History in Udine, making the collections of the Neolithic period accessible through virtual reality.
In its current state of development, it is a vertical slice, a portion of the game that serves as a proof of concept. It is to all intents and purposes a slice of the cake (the complete game) that demonstrates the functionality and degree of interaction that can be achieved. It is already being adopted by the Museum for educational activities with all age groups.
The video game is a unique form of educational entertainment (edutainment) because it encourages users to be an active part of the action. With Lithobit the player wears a virtual reality visor and is immersed in the Neolithic context of Ragogna Lake. Moving around the space to be explored, he searches for tools and learns how to use them. These objects are photogrammetric reproductions of artefacts preserved in the museum and it is possible to collect, manipulate and use them.
The project ‘LITHOBIT – IMMERSIVE REALITY AT THE MUSEUM’ is a beneficiary of funding from the ERDF PR Programme 2021 2027: Investment for jobs and growth. Intervention type a3.4.2: Interventions in support of cultural and creative enterprises.
